Sheffield Swimming Association

Welcome to the relaunch of the Sheffield Schools’ Swimming Championships. Following a short break due to Covid-19 and Brian Deakin stepping down, we are pleased to able to take up the mantle and continue the legacy of an association that is over 100 year’s old. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian for all his work with the association over the years.

Next Event: Primary School Swimming Gala

Location: Ponds Forge Swimming Pool

Date: 25th May 2023

Time: 7pm to 9pm

Signing Up

Sadly, we are only currently able to invite 20 schools to compete in the Gala each year and this year, places have been offered to the schools who have previously been involved. However, we are looking at introducing more regional galas in the future and offering places to many more schools. If you are interested in either being added to this year’s gala waiting list in case another school drops out or would be interested in taking part in future regional galas, please contact the event organiser, Steven Green on

Gala Basics

  • A school’s team is made up of at least 8 children – 2 x Y3/4 girls and 2 x Y3/4 boys & 2 x Y5/6 girls and 2 x Y5/6 boys.

  • There are 10 events as set out in the table below.

  • You could have more than 8 children take part – you could have different children in the various events so long as they are in the correct age ranges.

  • To give more schools a chance of winning a trophy, we shall again be organising the gala into two divisions. The last school from Division A last year will swap with the winner from Division B. Any new schools will be added to Division B with everyone else moving up the order. Heat 1 of each event will be Div. A teams with Heat 2 being Div. B teams. Points will be awarded in the usual way and winners honoured in each division.
