What is PE and Sport Premium Funding?

The sport premium funding is an initiative facilitated by the current government to enhance the provision of PE and school sport in primary schools. The funding, a direct response to London 2012, has been available to primary schools since 2013-2014. Each year, primary schools receive a lump sum depending on the number of pupils on roll and then a further £10.00 per pupil on roll.

Initially, the funding that Malin Bridge Primary received allowed the school to continue developing its provision. The school will continue to develop its PE curriculum, providing a rich, varied and balanced provision with resources enhanced, providing quality staff CPD and high quality teaching and learning for all children. It will also provide further exciting opportunities for all children to be challenged and allow them to compete in school and out of school.

What did Malin Bridge Primary receive and how did we spend the funding in 2021/22?

For the academic year 2021/22, we received £20,450 of sports premium funding. The funding enabled us to increase our PE resources and provide the following:

• Conduct SSE learning walks.
• Have a designated leader of PE.
• Combine PE with healthy schools.
• Continue staff continuing professional development (CPD).

The successful use of sports premium funding was noted in our last Ofsted inspection:

“Leaders use the primary school physical education (PE) and sport funding very effectively and with remarkable attention to ensure that pupils receive high-quality sporting opportunities and experiences. Leaders’ research-based evidence ensures that there is equality in participation in sport. For example, the ‘Malin’s mighty girls’ project raised the profile of girls’ sport, involved mums and staff, and resulted in increased awareness and interest in keeping fit and healthy”.

What will Malin Bridge use the funding for this year?

We will direct our sports premium funding for this year towards self-sustaining, quality PE provision.

The funds will be spent on resources, staff CPD, transport, participation in competitions through an additional leadership role being identified, health and wellbeing interventions, and continuing to build the success of Malin Bridge Swim School through further training and resources.

Sports Day at EIS Sheffield

Recently, we have taken the children to the EIS (English Institute of Sport) for their annual sports day. They take part in various athletic disciplines using the venue’s excellent track and field facilities. Parents are invited to watch the competition and cheer on the children from the stands - it has been a huge success.

 

 

Malin Bridge Swim School 

In 2018, we began running our own swimming provision, Malin Bridge Swim School and have been recognised by Sheffield Schools Active Awards for ‘Innovation in Swimming’. We currently take Year 3 children swimming, thereby achieving national curriculum requirements ahead of the Year 6 requirement.
